Local pub owner Jemima Jane Ericson is living a lie. She’s been in love with her best friend Ethan since forever. But he fell in love with another woman, married her, and despite their tempestuous relationship and decade old divorce, JJ knows Ethan’s heart is still down for the count. And friendship is better than nothing, right?

Single dad and Jumbuck Springs chief of police, Ethan Weston, hits the pub the night his ex-wife remarries and announces she wants custody of their daughter. When he wakes the next morning to find himself in JJ’s bed he’s mortified that they’d crossed a line they should never have crossed. Until JJ’s abusive ex, Shane, shows up at her door and Ethan claims he and JJ are engaged to protect her.

Both are stunned by the unravelling of their normally sane lives but suddenly it makes sense – JJ gets a deterrent and Ethan gets the respectability of a wife for any custody claims. But when JJ’s life is threatened, Ethan is forced to confront feelings that may just run much deeper than convenience…

Some Girls Lie Outback Heat Book 4 edition by Amy Andrews Literature Fiction eBooks

Can be read as a standalone. Aussie barkeep JJ grew up in Jumbuck Springs along with the Weston family. She's been in love with Ethan Weston her entire life but Ethan's been in love with Delia since high school. Ethan's marriage failed after Delia took off, so he's now a single dad to a 14-year old, and still friend zones JJ. JJ tried to move on and briefly married Shane, which landed her in the hospital a decade ago. Yet, she still secretly pines for Ethan. When Delia decides to screw with Ethan yet again, he falls into a drunken stupor and yadda, yadda, yadda... JJ and Ethan do the deed. JJ secretly loved it but Ethan thought he crossed a line. When JJ's past also comes back to haunt her, Ethan's protectiveness (and sheriff authority) force JJ and Ethan to get close and personal. The sexual tension OOOOOZED like crazy between these two! I love that JJ turned to Dennis for comfort (wink, wink.) I was super frustrated that it took Ethan so long to pull his head out of his arse and see what was right in front of him. Fun, sweet, easy read.

Some Girls Lie Outback Heat Book 4 edition by Amy Andrews Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Let me just get it out there and state that Ethan is dumb when it comes to JJ. I can’t believe he fell for Delia. I guess there won’t be story if he didn’t. In other aspects of his life, he’s great. On the other hand, JJ is a well-developed character. She is strong and steadfast. She’s a great businesswoman. She’s brave and is a good friend. I like their story even though they don’t have that intense chemistry. I think their friendship is something to cherish. The author laid out a plot that flowed smoothly with just the right amount of conflicts. Good read! [I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book.]
Great story about 2 small town friends since childhood that grow up together and go through college. Now more than ever they were tossed closely together by her ex-husband, who was out of prison. Complications arose from his ex wife when she came back into the picture after leaving him and their 2 yrs old daughter 14 yrs. ago. Teaming together to work out both issues, but his past marriage was a disaster he never wanted to repeat.

Great story, passion, love, respect and true friendship, along with a cruel ex husband to deal with, makes an exciting read.
This is just really a fun read! The characters all are realistic, engaging and down-to-earth -- even the minor ones. The story is logical, told with a sense of humor, and with enough clarifying insight to add nice dimension to the overall tale. Australian slang is utilized with an eye toward a broader audience; those of us who are not Aussies still follow everything that goes on. The action is nicely paced. Even the few grammatical differences I picked up on are more a matter of a difference of opinion. This is a true rarity -- a well-told tale where I wouldn't change a thing!
I really enjoyed learning that the Australian outback towns are the same as in most of the communities everywhere in the world. JJ has taken over the running of her parents pub and they have retired to the coast. Ethan Weston, JJ's best friend who she has loved for most of her life and is the town's sheriff, is sitting in her bar with a bottle of Jack Daniels. His exwife has taken their 14 year old daughter Connie with her to Paris for a two week holiday, but before leaving has informed Ethan that she wants full custody of Connie. The story is filled with heartache and remorse for JJ and Ethan. He wants nothing to do with love and JJ just wants Ethan to love her for herself.
What's a girl supposed to do when the only man she's ever loved goes off an marries a rival? Jemima Jane, aka JJ, has been in love with Ethan Weston since grade school, and has had to watch him fall over his own feet over the dreadful Delia. Not only did Delia win him, she broke him and threw him and their beautiful daughter Connie, away. All JJ has ever been in the eyes of Ethan was good old, dependable JJ, best friend, shoulder to cry on. When he married Delia, she hooked up with the first guy to pay her a bit of affection, only to leave and divorce him after he brutally beat her, landing her in the hospital with a broken cheek, black eye, and broken ribs. Over a decade later, and she's still carrying a torch for Ethan, only he has never figured it out. It's her secret! So, when Ethan's ex re-marries and threatens to file for sole custody of their fourteen year old daughter, and JJ's ex shows up in town looking for her, the stakes are raised, and Ethan drums up a plan to keep JJ safe from Shane, and help himself out with a pending custody battle....They'll pretend to be engaged, and in order for it to be credible, they'll live together. Will JJ ever be able to hold up her pretense? Will Ethan be able to protect her and win his case?
Packed full of lots of excitement, a bit of violence, a few sexy and steamy sex scenes, and a whole lot of love, this book will have you on edge, not wanting to put it down. Even though this is part of a series, it is a standalone and doesn't have to be read in sequence, although it might help with some of the other characters, but I don't believe you loose anything from this particular story. Well done!
This is a well-written book about a woman who has been in love with her "best friend" for years and has had to watch him brood over another woman. When Ethan's ex threatens to take custody of their daughter and JJ's violent ex turns up in town, the two of them pretend to an engagement to solve both their problems. Ethan is an alpha Aussie who is a great guy but too pig-headed to realize that JJ represents everything that he ever wanted. JJ is a strong, independent woman who isn't willing to settle for anything other than love. The plot of the story is excellent and the characters (even the secondary characters) and well rounded and believable. The dialogue is good and keeps the story moving along well. After reading this one, I am going to go back and read the rest of the series. And I am putting Amy Andrews on my to-read list.

Language (a lot of f-bombs) and sexual situations may offend some readers
